OPENING NIGHT NEWS

The opening night of the Mississippi Basketball Exposure was a night to remember as it saw a crowd of over 250 fans. There were young and old alike in attendance to see some of Mississippi’s talented basketball players. Every game on opening night gave every indication that the MBEL will be the place to be in Mississippi this summer!

Game 1 Stallions B 97 Bulls 63
Game 1 of the night lead way to an exciting evening of basketball as the young fiery Stallions B came out energized and ready to play. They thrilled the crowd with alley oops dunks and long range three point shots. The Stallions B lead by #4 (21points), showed just how good it is to play with players on one accord. The Bulls kept the game close in the first half behind the play of point guard Curtis Bailey Jr. He showed a display of moves as he carved his way in and out of the lane time and time again getting layups and teammates involved. In the end the athleticism of the Stallions B and scrappy play proved to be too much for the Bulls.

Game 2 Warriors 75 Jackson Jam 74
Game 2 could easily go down as one of the most exciting games ever played in Jackson area basketball! Game 2 showcased two of Jackson’s rising stars. It pitted NBA D-League player Trey Johnson against CBA player Daniel Price. This game was a seesaw battle from opening tip until the shot at the buzzer by Dakari Wallace (Jam) pulled the Jam within one point, resulting in a 75-74 final score. Trey Johnson showed why he led the NCAA in scoring and is a recent addition to the Milwaukee Bucks Summer League team, putting on a shooting clinic in the second half of action, hitting 3 treys from behind the arc. Not to be out done, (East Kentucky Miners) Daniel Price showed why every coach he has ever played for believes he can play on any level. Price finished the game with 23 points 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Price shot 9-9 from the free throw line earning him player of the game. James Thomas (Warriors) former Lanier High School standout showed how he has evolved into a solid point guard with a strong performance off the bench with 10 assists. Sandrell Spann was a force inside for the Warriors pulling down 8 rebounds and finishing with 12 points. Trey Johnson finished pouring in 30 points for the Jam.

Late Game Fighting Knights 79 Simple Assault 67
The latest game of the evening was an all out war with the veterans of Simple Assault taking on the young, scrappy Fighting Knights. The Knights pulled out the victory being led by Tremaine Enoch with 13 points. Simple Assault was lead by former JSU Guard Rod Taylor with 30 pts.
